musings of a clergy child

About Me

Hi Friend,

What a joy to have you here with me. I’m so looking forward to getting to know you.

First, let me introduce myself:

I’m Alianore, I’m 26 years old, and I'm the Church Partnerships Manager at International Justice Mission - the largest anti-slavery organisation in the world, Previously, I studied Theology at Durham University and worked as a writer at the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity. I’m an introvert who likes to talk, I thrive off deep, honest friendship and I really really like dogs.

Also, I’m the daughter of two vicars, hence the subtitle of the blog. I’ve spent my whole life determined not to let that define me, but as it plays such a key role in my life and my faith journey I thought that I might as well be honest about it from the offset.

This blog is a place where I write as I think and think as I write. I find there to be a deep satisfaction in putting into words the feelings that I can never quite name, or the thoughts that race around my head for days on end. Words are powerful, and I’d love to invite you in to my world to listen, read, and join in the fun.

You’ll find a whole bunch of things if you have a nosey around here – please feel free to do so, it’s such fun to have people come to visit!

To give you a whistle-stop tour, there are Tips for Clergy Children, where I explore the things I learnt whilst growing up in a vicarage. Whether you’re a clergy child, a clergy parent, or just curious about what it’s like living in an open home, you’ll hopefully find these tips both amusing and insightful.

Another form my posts take is that of Musings – this is probably my favourite form, and it follows a deep wrestling and questioning of faith through theological reflection, creative writing and a small amount of poetry.

You could also have a wander over to some of the other blogs that I’ve written guest posts for – you’ll find links to those over at Writing.

If you’re particularly keen, you could head order a copy of my book, published in June 2017. If you have any thoughts/questions/ideas regarding it, I’d love to hear them – just get in contact! I'm contactable on [email protected]/* <![CDATA[ */!function(t,e,r,n,c,a,p){try{t=document.currentScript||function(){for(t=document.getElementsByTagName('script'),e=t.length;e--;)if(t[e].getAttribute('data-cfhash'))return t[e]}();if(t&&(c=t.previousSibling)){p=t.parentNode;if(a=c.getAttribute('data-cfemail')){for(e='',r='0x'+a.substr(0,2)|0,n=2;a.length-n;n+=2)e+='%'+('0'+('0x'+a.substr(n,2)^r).toString(16)).slice(-2);p.replaceChild(document.createTextNode(decodeURIComponent(e)),c)}p.removeChild(t)}}catch(u){}}()/* ]]> */. I'd love to hear from you!

For now, though, I’ll leave you to have a browse. If you want to get to know me a little more, come say hi on Twitter or follow me on Instagram – I’d love to connect with you there! Also, please don’t leave without signing up for email updates – you can do that by putting your email address in the little box just up there on the right -->

Thanks for popping by!

ME

Hi, I’m Alianore. I used to be known as 'Nell Goddard', but then I got married and changed my name. I’m an author, blogger, and speaker. A theologian, on a good day. A Christian, a storyteller, and a friend. I tweet as @alianoree and you can find more of my writings in my first book, 'Musings of a Clergy Child'.
